Teenage midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain enjoyed a richly-promising first season with the Club.

After joining from then-Championship side Southampton in August 2011, he made his debut at Old Trafford later that month - coming on as a substitute in the 8-2 defeat against Manchester United.

His next two appearances produced far brighter memories, as he notched fine goals in the wins over Shrewsbury Town and Olympiacos at Emirates Stadium.

A strong, exciting runner with outstanding vision and the ability to play in wide or central areas, Alex came into his own at the start of 2012. He put in a man-of-the-match performance in the return fixture against Manchester United, before scoring twice in the 7-1 win over Blackburn Rovers. In addition, he produced a memorable display in central midfield as AC Milan were beaten 3-0 on March 6.

Already an established England Under-21 international, Alex’s form saw him promoted to the senior set-up at the end of the season, making his debut against Norway. He then played in three of England’s four Euro 2012 fixtures - starting, and impressing, in the 1-1 draw against France.

The son of former England winger Mark Chamberlain, Alex became Southampton’s second-youngest player - behind Theo Walcott - in 2009/10. The following season, he made 41 appearances and scored 10 goals as the Saints were promoted from League One.
